Is there a difference between self-tapping screws and drill-tail screws?

Self-tapping screw, whose English name is Self-tapping Screw, is a threaded fastener that taps its own mating female thread in a pre-drilled hole in metal or non-metal materials.
Product Introduction
Due to its self-forming ability or the ability to tap threads that match it, it possesses high anti-loosening capabilities in assembly and can be assembled and disassembled. In small screws, its size, thread type, head shape, and tapping performance exhibit high tensile strength, single-piece, and single-sided assembly characteristics, making them invaluable for engineering applications. Self-tapping screws can be divided into carbon steel and stainless steel materials, with carbon steel materials primarily being 1022 medium carbon steel. They are commonly used in doors, windows, and metal sheets. The head is formed by enlarging one end to create a bearing surface. For thread forming and thread cutting self-tapping screws (self-tapping nails), flat countersunk, oval countersunk, pan, hex, and hex washer heads are important. These five head types account for almost 90% of all self-tapping screws. When using self-tapping screws (self-tapping nails), these factors should be considered first. The other five types are flat undercut, flat trim, oval undercut, oval trim, and cylindrical head (Fillister head), which are considered secondary head types. For mushroom head, round head, and 100-degree flat countersunk head types, new designs do not adopt them due to their functions being replaceable by other head types. The pan head can replace the mushroom head and round head, and the 82-degree flat countersunk head can replace the 100-degree flat, oval, pan, hex, and hex washer head types.
definition
Generally, it refers to screws with self-tapping threads, which can perform self-tapping functions without the need for a nut. There are many types of screw heads, including hexagonal, pan head, countersunk head, hexagonal socket head, umbrella head, and padded head, among others. The tail is usually pointed to facilitate self-tapping.
effect
Self-tapping screws are used for non-metals or softer metals, eliminating the need for drilling low-diameter holes and tapping. Self-tapping screws have pointed tips, which allows them to "self-tap". Regular screws are flat-headed and of uniform thickness. Self-tapping screws refer to holes that do not require tapping. The screws used are different from ordinary ones, with pointed tips and a larger thread pitch, somewhat similar to chipless taps. They can be screwed in directly without tapping, and this method is commonly used for metals and plastics. It can rely on its own threads to "tap-drill, squeeze, and press" corresponding threads on the consolidated material, making them fit tightly together.

purpose
It is primarily used for securing color steel tiles in steel structures, and can also be applied to securing thin plates in simple buildings.
Material and specifications
Generally, there are iron and stainless steel.
The materials used on wood are generally iron. The materials used on steel plates include iron and stainless steel, of which stainless steel can be divided into more than 20 varieties.
The specifications are: Φ5.5×20mm - Φ5.5×135mm, Φ6.3×25mm - Φ6.3×300mm.
